How long does a typical garden transformation take?

4-6 months from first meeting to thriving garden (although timelines vary depending on project scope). We study your land (weeks 1-2), develop design possibilities together (weeks 3-6), build with the same team (weeks 8-16), then guide establishment through the first year. Spring garden transformations require starting by previous autumn. We limit capacity to 20 projects annually.

Do you work on listed properties and heritage sites?

Extensively. Recent work includes 18th-century Grade II listed manor in Tewkesbury—engineering curved limestone steps through complex topography, creating formal parterre gardens meeting heritage requirements. We understand planning processes, conservation officer expectations, heritage listing restrictions. Our garden construction respects these requirements whilst meeting modern building standards because we've done it repeatedly.

What does 'contemporary garden design' mean in a Cotswold context?

Our contemporary garden designs work within traditional Cotswold contexts because we understand both languages. Laser survey technology for millimetre-accurate curved geometries combined with hand-fettled Cotswold limestone. Modern engineering that is invisible beneath traditional craft. Not contemporary style imposed on Cotswold properties, but contemporary thinking applied to gardens that honour regional character.

Do you subcontract the construction work?

No. The same team that designed your garden builds it. This integrated approach—one team handling design, construction, planting—is why clients' outdoor spaces still perform well years later. Problems get solved immediately because everyone understands the full picture.

What is your design process?

Initial consultation establishes how you live, what you're trying to achieve and what's actually possible on your specific site. Not about quoting or measuring initially—about understanding feasibility. Then we explore design possibilities together, each iteration getting closer to "yes, that's it." You see exactly what you're commissioning. The same integrated team builds what they designed. Planting happens during optimal seasonal windows with first-year establishment support.

Can you integrate existing garden features?

We assess what should be retained, relocated, or replaced during initial consultation. The decision depends on whether existing elements serve how you want to use the space. Mature trees worth designing around. Established hedges that define good boundaries. Heritage features requiring preservation. Sometimes the best approach integrates existing assets. Sometimes starting fresh produces better outcomes. We advise based on what actually works, not what's easier to build.

What types of materials do you work with?

Premium limestone paving, Cotswold limestone sourced from local quarries, commercial-grade bonding mortars that allow stone to breathe whilst delivering 20+ year durability, structural engineering specifications for retaining walls, precision-fabricated drainage. Materials chosen for longevity whilst remaining appropriate to heritage contexts. Not the cheapest options, but the ones that perform properly for decades.

Do you provide planting plans and horticultural guidance?

Comprehensive planting plans considering mature size, seasonal performance, Gloucestershire soil types and microclimates. We select for long-term success—not immediate impact that fades within years. We install plant during optimal planting windows and provide maintenance guidance for the first 12 months as the garden becomes established.
