Patios, Paths & Paving

Using stone to create seating areas and paths is a popular choice for good reason — natural and quality reconstituted stone has a lifespan measured in decades, not years. The difference between a patio that lasts and one that fails within five years is almost entirely in the specification and the base construction.

George-Stone Gardens

Paving that looks as good in ten years as it does on day one.

Using stone to create seating areas and paths is a popular choice for good reason — natural and quality reconstituted stone has a lifespan measured in decades, not years. The difference between a patio that lasts and one that fails within five years is almost entirely in the specification and the base construction.

George-Stone Gardens installs everything from porcelain and limestone to sandstone, slate and the wide range of contemporary reconstituted products. We specify the right product for your site, your drainage conditions, your frost exposure and your style — and we build it on a base that doesn't move.

Natural Stone Paving

There is a wide range of paving choices available across a plethora of colours and finishes to suit any style of garden. We use everything from porcelain, limestone, sandstone and slate to the wide selection of reconstituted products — all with their own character and application.

Most paving choices are available in project packs containing between three and six different slab sizes with an accompanying laying pattern. Alternatively, slabs can be laid in a linear repeat of the same size — the choice most often made with contemporary garden designs.

Garden Paths

Garden Paths

Paths are almost always a functional aspect of a garden but with a considered design approach they can become a feature in their own right — a way to lead the eye towards another focal point further into the space.

Using stone setts on either side of a paved path adds real detail and makes a significant difference to the overall effect. Stepping stones set level into a lawn allow a mower to run straight over them. If budget is a concern, stepping stones set into gravel with a stone sett or metal edge give a discreet and equally effective finish.

Paving Construction

Paving Construction

A good base is essential in building a patio that will last. All our patios are laid on a foundation of MOT Type 1 hardcore at a minimum depth of 75mm (compacted). On this foundation your chosen paving is laid on a full bed of mortar, tapped into place and left with a fall to allow water to drain away.

This ensures that over time none of your slabs will become loose or crack. Once laid we point the joints either with a cement-based mix or a two-part resin system — popular for its weed resistance and the quality of finish. Various colours are available to provide the best match to your chosen slabs.
